Our commitment
Roofing Brooklyn Company is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to people with disabilities. We aim to meet or exceed Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard recommended by the U.S. Department of Justice for public-facing websites under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Accessibility is not a one-time project. We test, refine, and improve continuously. If something on this site is not working for you, we want to hear about it — see "Contact us" below.
What we've done
This website was built with accessibility in mind from the start. Specific measures include:
- Semantic HTML structure. Pages use headings (H1, H2, H3) in proper hierarchical order, landmark regions (header, navigation, main, footer), and meaningful link text.
- Color contrast. Body text against background meets or exceeds WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
- Keyboard navigation. Every interactive element — navigation links, buttons, form fields, FAQ accordions, and the project carousels — can be reached and operated using only a keyboard. Tab and Shift+Tab to move between elements; Enter or Space to activate; arrow keys to navigate carousels.
- Focus indicators. Visible focus outlines appear when navigating with a keyboard so you always know where you are on the page.
- Image alt text. Meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked as such so screen readers skip them.
- Form labels. Every form field has an associated visible label and clear instructions. Required fields are indicated. Error messages are announced to assistive technology.
- Responsive design. Pages adapt to different screen sizes, zoom levels (up to 200%), and orientations without loss of content or functionality.
- Reduced motion. Animations and transitions respect the operating system's "reduce motion" setting. If you prefer no motion, we honor that preference automatically.
- Readable typography. Body text is set in a high-readability typeface (IBM Plex Sans) at sizes that meet WCAG minimums. Line height and spacing are tuned for easier reading.
- Skip links. A keyboard-accessible skip link appears at the start of each page so keyboard and screen-reader users can jump past the navigation directly to the main content.
Known limitations
We're being transparent about areas where this site does not yet meet our accessibility goals or where work is in progress:
- Project carousel images. Current images are illustrative locale photos rather than detailed before/after work. When we update with real project photography, alt text will be expanded to describe project specifics.
- Some inner pages are still under development and have not yet undergone full keyboard and screen-reader testing.
- Third-party content. Embedded content from manufacturers, social media platforms, or mapping services (when added) may not always meet our accessibility standards. We choose providers with strong accessibility records when possible.
Compatibility
This website is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and assistive technologies, including:
- Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS, iOS)
- Voice control: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Voice Control (macOS, iOS)
- Browser zoom up to 200% and operating-system display scaling
- Keyboard-only navigation (no mouse required)
- Switch input devices, eye-tracking, and other assistive input methods
If you find a specific assistive-technology combination that doesn't work well with our site, please tell us; we'll prioritize fixing it.
